$40 N64 That Repair Shop “Couldn’t Fix” – Let’s Fix It! The seller of this Nintendo 64 game console took it to a repair shop when it stopped working. The shop said they couldn’t fix it for him so now I have it to figure out what is wrong and if I can get it working again.

  1. N64s are to my knowledge and experience pretty reliable and easy to keep running, capacitors don’t usually fail except for in the Power Supply but it’s still more likely a N64 Power supply works then not. Usually all a not working n64 need needs is the jumper pack,Expansion pack connector cleaning, and mainly the game cartridge connector/pins (on both the cartridge and console)needs semi thorough cleaning (boiling isn’t necessary as I don’t think the pins usually bend they just get dirty) and that’s it.
It’s still good to clean the mainboard, ideally change the capacitors cuz their probably not performing as well as they use to, and it’s probably posable to do a thermal paste mod replacing the thermal pads with paste for beter cooling( I don’t think cooling is a problem stock) but that’s usually not necessary to make an n64 consistently run cartridges 1st try.

  2. Well just like dkoldies as I saw some videos on here when they bought some n64s new SNES, that it did work some first start, cleaned it then finally worked, and didn’t work!

I feel just happy better going shop local at retro game stores to get what ever console I can get a hold of!

Then only on eBay to find certain classic games that I can’t find anywhere where I’m at!

  3. i think the chip was ok, the dirt and bugs may have been bridging something and probably what the previous owner heard pop was a bug that got zapped.

  4. Hello, I need some help. I have a Jungle Green N64 that has audio, but no video. I cleaned the jumper pak contacts and game cartridge contacts. I have tried 3 different games and both jumper pak and expansion pak. I have used 3 different av cables and I am using a CRTV which I have used for all my other retro consoles. with no issues. I am not sure where to go from there. Any help is appreciated, thanks all.

  5. i had a problem on the tv port signal, i just resoldered the pins and the n64 is now back to action

  6. You should have tested it before replacing anything. The N64 only needs a clean 999,999 times out of a million. It is so rare for those motherboards to fail that I have never heard of one that wasn’t due to external forces (usually intentional)

  7. How did you know that the chip was corroded? After you cleaned it, it looked like it was new. Trying to learn as I am also looking to repair consoles

  8. I’ve worked on consoles and laptops before that had roaches and spiders (both alive and dead) in them. One time, someone who had just gotten back from a trip to Fiji brought me a laptop to work on. When I opened it up, there was a colony of Fiji ants inside of it that were still alive. I don’t recall if there was a queen with them, but if so.. it’s this dude’s fault for them being in San Diego now. 😜

  9. Found repeair shops are worthless and cant will not fix most items to begin with employess are not well versed in their jobs. Better off to wath youtube vdieos to fix something

  10. Hey i recently picked up a n64 that may have a similar issue. Any chance we can find these chips for sale anywhere?

  11. Willing to bet; *1.) Motherboard*
    4:31 ~ *Short Ciruit?*
    or *2.) Heat issue*
(this was a Default design) mind you.

    However; i Digress..

  12. I always wished I knew how to reattach one tiny connector for my windows phone lumia 1520. it connects the charge wire, cellular, flash, but otherwise the phone works fine. Wifi.
The chip is so much smaller than this but I bet in essence it just sticks on like this. haha.
I heatguned the screen replacements too many times. Now I have tempered glass screen protectors and six cases I bought all the parts on ifixit one time "just in case".

The fix it guy in town was like I’ll fix it for $20 and I laughed I said it’s really really tiny are you sure? He said, "Maybe $70" Like irl it’s just a sticker right? >_<

  13. never saw a capacitor leaking and i changed thousands of those already. you cant see if they are broken in most of the cases

  14. there is no evidence that the chip you changed caused the issue. the dirt alone could have caused it already. you should always clean the device first and then try again before soldering anything. saves time and money and work.

  15. so i recently found a random n64 on the ground burried witht the connections so i cleaned it up there was a lot of dirt and most of all the metal peaces were really rusted up but after a few hrs i actuly got the n64 to work again i bought a game for it to test it out and everything works fine

  16. I was trying to desolder the reset power switch on a n64 and replace with another i had bought and never soldered anything somehow ended up messing up c103 on the back of the motherboard any chance i can get help or info if it’s important?

  17. Why pay so much everytime🙂 Do you need someone to negotiate your purchases for you? I have some free time if you want.

  18. Or you charge the same and let them know thry can get one for less. Here in 20-30 years this will be interesting.

  19. 5:18 carpet beetle! They feed on not synthetic fibers

    Guess what those are?

Dust! Skin cells! Hair! Wool, anything that’s not synthetic like nylon carpet

  20. 120$ now used. I just got one for around that price with orginal box with console number US 001 😅
Mabye I over paid but they are all going for generally around that price now for a decent one

  21. They could repair it but if they did theyd have to honor a new warranty which most likely would be used when it broke again. Bro don’t even sell that do us a favor

  22. Probably mentioned already, but you should pop out the jumper pak before separating the two halves.

  23. epic. suppose you didn’t have a donor board. any tips on where someone could get another one of those chips?

  24. I have a 64 that was left in a camping trailer and we think it got too hot because it no longer plays games. Is there a process for sending it to you?
